It is surrounded by important public buildings including the presidential palace and from the establishment it is possible to go on a walking excursion in the surrounding area. An interesting destination with an easy to follow route is the Relais de la Reine.

The Relais de la Reine, commonly called the Queen's Palace or "rovan'i Manjakamiadana" represents the place of the Malagasy sovereigns who succeeded one another in the highlands between 1883 and 1895. It is located on the heights of the capital, more 1400m above sea level and offers a breathtaking view of the extent of the city and its surroundings.

If you are staying in Antananarivo and want to visit the queen's relay, here is an easy route to follow from the La Varangue hotel.
From the hotel, go up towards Antaninarenina and stop at the Colbert hotel. Then take the street which leads towards Ambatonakanga and from the pergola, go up towards Faravohitra. Following the slope, you will arrive at Andohalo. You can take the opportunity to relax in its public garden.

After this moment of respite, continue the ascent towards Manjakamiadana because the queen's relay is just nearby.

Note that the palace was the victim of a fire in 1995 and that today, only a few buildings have still been able to be restored. However, this does not detract from the charm of the place.
